About JL

>My objectives and values:

>To shed new light on our understanding of what wellbeing is in a constantly changing world.

>To spread an understanding of the critical space that nature provides the modern individual for achieving perspective and reinventing him- or herself.

>To explore the individual processes that unify us and thereby make us thrive in harmony with other people and our environment.

>During the past decade I have been exploring the question of what makes us feel well and thrive in life. During this journey, I became fascinated by the special brand of health and wellbeing offered by the Nordic region. I was particularly fascinated because I realized that within this system there were many ideas that people elsewhere in the world could readily understand and integrate to live a better life. My book about this subject was published by Penguin in 1995 in the United States and Canada. During this period I initiated a number of other projects relating to Nordic Wellbeing. These included my e-magazine, www.wellnessofscandinavia.com, and my skin care product series, Purely Nordic. In 1996 I began to write my "Letter from the Island" column for the Nordic Reach Group based in Connecticut, USA, which delivers my spontaneous thoughts about health and wellbeing from my island to American readers on a monthly basis. I continue to be guided by my interest in exploring the broad questions of what makes us thrive through new projects. These include my work on natural eating, children's wellbeing and our common need to belong.

Prior to embarking on my journey of becoming a thinker about health and wellbeing, I worked as a management consultant for various multinational companies including Ramboll and KPMG Management Consulting. During this time I travelled to some of the poorest and most troubled countries of the world and was struck by the urgent responsibility that we in the more advanced parts of the world have to bring our own houses in order. The future of countless marginalized people depends on it.

I am privileged to have lived and worked on all of the continents of the world. I experienced childhood in ten different countries on three continents and went on to work in many more. I speak English, German and Swedish but I have learned that if you share the same objectives and values you can work together in any language.
