The flames rage in my eyes because a cathedral burns.
The flames rage in my eyes because civilization burns, and the spire that reached to the heavens was a reminder of the divine in us. The flames rage in my eyes because civilization burned people, and the imposing structure was built to instil the fear of God. The flames rage in my eyes because we must remember all of this when the fire consumes the glory and the misery of our inherited past. Song rises in defiance as the flames dance, but in the morning silence breaks through the smouldering embers, and whispers: rebuild, but Never Again. On the historic fire of Notre Dame, 15 April 2019.
